The ongoing violence in Thailand’s three most southern border provinces is one of the most essential problems in the country at present. The primary cause of this insurgency in the area is due to drug abuse and addiction. Juveniles lack restraint which subsequently induces them to go astray and the government sector has no program in place for drug rehabilitation that accords with the Islamic way of life; all these cause the juveniles, who are willing to retreat, to fear taking part in such programs. Consequently, these juveniles become the tools of the insurgency. Therefore, the religious leaders, community leaders, and the government sector have collaboratively established ‘Pondok Yalannanbaru,’ or Islam Religion Treatment School, in order to host activities focused on drug rehabilitation for the Muslim youths under the Islamic way of life, doctrines and practices as tools to fight drugs. The architecture represents faith, respect, modesty, austerity and peace following the Islamic philosophy. The entire project begins with the study of local materials found in the site through a design process that focuses primarily on an economical budget, assimilation with the architectural context and achieving the most benefit from the organization of the planning system and the space within.

“ปอเนาะญาลันนันบารู” พื้นที่มุสลิมแห่งศานติ

​ปัญหาในพื้นที่ 3 จังหวัดชายแดนใต้เป็นปัญหาที่สำคัญปัญหาหนึ่งของประเทศ สาเหตุหนึ่งของความไม่สงบในพื้นที่นั้นก็คือปัญหายาเสพติด เนื่องจากเยาวชนเหล่านั้นขาดแหล่งยึดเหนี่ยวจึงถูกชักจูงได้โดยง่าย และทางภาครัฐมิได้มีสถานที่บำบัดผู้ติดยาเสพติดที่สอดคล้องกับวิถีชีวิตของชาวมุสลิม ทำให้เยาวชนมุสลิมที่มีความประสงค์จะเข้ารับการบำบัดไม่กล้าที่จะเข้าร่วม ซึ่งเยาวชนมุสลิมจึงยังถูกใช้เป็นเครื่องมือในการก่อความไม่สงบต่อไป ดังนั้นผู้นำศาสนา ผู้นำชุมชน และหน่วยงานราชการ จึงได้ร่วมกันจัดตั้งโครงการ “ปอเนาะญาลันนันบารู” ขึ้นเพื่อรองรองรับกิจกรรมด้านการบำบัดการติดยาเสพติดสำหรับกลุ่มเยาวชนมุสลิม ซึ่งดำเนินการโดยใช้รูปแบบวิถีชีวิต หลักศรัทธาหลักปฏิบัติของศาสนาอิสลามเป็นเครื่องมือในการแก้ปัญหายาเสพติด โดยมีการออกแบบสถาปัตยกรรมที่แสดงออกถึง ความศรัทธา ความนอบน้อมถ่อมตน ความสมถะและความศานติตามหลักปรัชญาแห่งอิสลาม โดยโครงการทั้งหมดเริ่มต้นด้วยการศึกษาวัสดุพื้นถิ่นเพื่อนำมาเป็นหลักในการออกแบบอาคารที่เน้นประหยัดงบประมาณและกลมกลืนกับสภาพแวดล้อม รวมถึงบริบทางสถาปัตยกรรม และการจัดระบบผังของพื้นที่ให้ใช้งานได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ
